Reduction Mentoplasty
What does it try to accomplish?
Some of the bone and soft tissue can be removed from the front of the chin to reduce the projection if the chin is too far forward. This operation is often combined with rhinoplasty.
How is it done?
A slip of bone is taken from the front of the jaw bone and also some of the overlying soft tissue.
How long does the operation take?
About three quarters of an hour.
How long is the stay in the clinic?
1 night
What type of stitches are used?
Sticky Tape.
How long are they left in?
4 or 5 days.
Is there any bruising?
Usually slight.
Is there any swelling?
Unusual.
Where are the scars and how bad are they?
Small scar hidden in the mouth.
How long does it take to recover?
10 days.
When is the final result seen?
1 month.
How long does it last?
Permanent.
