Inverted Nipple Correction
What does it try to accomplish?
Makes a turned-in nipple protrude in the normal way.
How is it done?
Stitches are placed to hold the nipple in the correct position until it heals. Sometimes the milk ducts have to be cut to release the nipple, but not usually.
How long does the operation take?
½ hour.
How long is the stay in the clinic?
Day case.
What type of stitches are used?
No skin stitches.
What type of dressing is used?
Small pad only.
How long is it left on?
4 or 5 days.
Is there any bruising?
None.
Is there any swelling?
Quite marked for a few days. The nipple can look quite odd straight after the operation.
What pain will there be?
Soreness only.
Where are the scars and how bad are they?
Tiny scar around beneath the nipple, inconspicuous.
How long does it take to recover?
1 week.
When is the final result seen?
1 month.
How long does it last?
Should be permanent.

Sometimes after 3 or 4 months the nipple goes back in and the operation needs to be repeated. Late infections occur rarely. If the breast ducts have been cut breast feeding is not advisable. |
